Seongsu Seoul Winter Memory: Pop-Ups, Café Dasique & Gamjatang
Seongsu Seoul Winter Memory: Pop-Ups, Café Dasique & Gamjatang
Seoul changes so quickly that every visit feels like a new city. This blog is not about today, but a memory of my last winter in Seongsu — a season of holiday pop-ups, warm cafés, and comforting food. And because I’m returning this September, I wanted to capture those moments here before sharing what Seongsu looks like now.
Winter in Seongsu: Holiday Pop-Ups & Dasique Flagship Store
The last time I visited Seongsu was in winter. The streets were alive with holiday pop-ups and installations, and one building stood out — wrapped like a glowing gift box. That was the Dasique flagship store, home to their playful “Chewing Glow Pot” pop-up.
Inside, I browsed cosmetics with a festive energy in the air, full of discounts and limited editions. But the best part came when I climbed upstairs to the second floor — Café Dasique.
Café Dasique: Pink Interiors & Dior Seongsu Window View
The café felt like stepping into Dasique’s brand world: soft blush-pink interiors, seasonal desserts, and beautifully served lattes. I queued for a window seat, and when I finally sat down, I had the perfect view of the Dior Seongsu concept store glowing just across the street.
That moment — warm coffee in hand, shopping bags at my side, and Dior’s luminous glass building across the window — was a pause in the middle of Seoul’s energy. A true Soyomoment (소요, 逍遙): a calm, meaningful instant that stays with me long after.
Other Pop-Up Highlights
- Dasique “Chewing Glow Pot” Pop-Up — colorful, playful, and festive. A space that made cosmetics feel like part of a holiday celebration.
- TIRTIR Pop-Up — a bold red installation that caught everyone’s attention and turned shopping into an immersive experience.
Somunnan Seongsu Gamjatang: The Perfect Winter Stew
After exploring pop-ups and enjoying Café Dasique, I ended my Seongsu day with a steaming bowl of gamjatang (pork bone stew) at Somunnan Seongsu Gamjatang. This 24-hour restaurant is a local legend, famous for its long queues and deeply flavorful broth.
I remember waiting about 40–50 minutes, but even that was bearable thanks to the heated benches provided for those in line. When my turn finally came, the rich, spicy stew — full of tender pork and potatoes — was the perfect winter comfort food. It was hearty, warming, and another memory I’ll never forget.
Looking Ahead
Time moves fast in Korea, and Seongsu changes even faster. I am planning to go back to Seoul very soon. I will visit Seongsu obviously — so I’m looking forward to my update on what is new.
